Where Dedicated Wrestlers Become Champions

What is wrestling?

Who do you immediately think of when you hear the word wrestling? If it is Hulk Hogan or The Rock this is not the blog for you. If what you think of is the oldest sport on the planet, the one you can watch at the Olympics, in the NCAA or in high schools throughout America, then you have found the right website…MICHAEL’S MAT HOME PAGE

Wrestling or more specifically amateur wrestling is a combat sport. Unlike professional wrestling, which is scripted, amateur wrestling is one of the purest forms of competition you can partake in. There are two people on the mat at a time and the goal is to impose your will on the person across from you. You can do this by either scoring points from takedowns, near falls, reversals or escapes as well as pinning both of your opponent’s shoulders to the mat.

I would not transfer my wrestling abilities to any other mainstream sport if I had the opportunity.

I know wrestling changed my life for the better and without it I would not be the person I am today. The principles you learn through the sport are so valuable from dedication, discipline, respect, will power…the list goes on and on. Wrestling has made everything in my life less challenging. To make it through one full season is an accomplishment in itself, let alone five, ten or even twenty seasons.

Another added benefit is the friends you make from the sport. They are some of the best you can have. They know what you have been through and understand where you are coming from.  People who have never wrestled cannot understand what it’s like. They don’t understand that wrestling is more than just a sport, it’s a lifestyle. It’s a commitment that you have to keep to yourself.

The point I am trying to make is, stick with wrestling no matter how tough it gets or how many losses you have to deal with. If you do, you will be paid back 100 fold with the qualities and friends it provides. That is much more valuable than fame and fortune. And that is the truth, even if you cannot believe it right now. One day you will.

Wrestling makes you a better person and that is what life is all about: being the best person you can be.
